“What we expand in others quietly expands within us”
A student once asked her guru, “What is the fastest way to grow?”
The guru replied gently, “Help another rise.”
Confused, the student asked, “But what will I gain from that?”
The guru smiled and said, “You will gain the version of yourself that only generosity can create.”
What we expand in others quietly expands within us. It means giving is not an act of charity, it is an act of clarity. When we give thoughtfully – respect, opportunity, access and voice we are not diminishing our space but widening the circle of excellence. And in doing so, we build environments where equality grows naturally without force or friction.
Across cultures, geographies and leadership tables one truth has remained constant in my experience: What we give intentionally returns multiplied in trust, in growth and in possibility.
The conversation around equality is evolving beautifully. Today, it is less about correcting imbalance and more about expanding what becomes possible when we invest in one another deliberately.
GiveToGain to me is a leadership practice. It is the conscious choice to
• Give respect before it is requested
• Give visibility before it is expected
• Give resources before they are negotiated
• Give encouragement before doubt takes root
Thoughts to reflect
· What would shift if I approached leadership as a daily act of giving?
· Where can I extend belief before evidence appears?
· Do I measure leadership by outcome or by what I enable in others?
· Where can I amplify someone’s contribution simply by noticing it??
· What am I uniquely positioned to give that someone else may need?
